How often do you share photos of yourself for your business?

Robert Cornelius, an American photographer, took a daguerreotype of himself in 1839, two years after the invention of the daguerreotype (an early type of photograph that used a special metal plate to capture detailed images). The image is thought to be both the first selfie and one of the first photographs of a person.

But as you know, images have come a long way since the 1800s.

Today, we're diving into a topic that might feel a bit unfamiliar to some in the professional arena: sharing photos of yourself, especially in the form of...yes, you guessed it - selfies! So, let's explore the art of the selfie and its place in your business.

Not all moments in business are curated. Some are candid, spontaneous, and genuine. These are the moments that often resonate the most with our audience.

Today, while I still cherish and use my professional photos, I'm also a regular selfie poster. Each one is a testament to my evolution, both as a businesswoman and an individual coming to terms with the power of vulnerability and authenticity. It’s a gentle reminder that sometimes, imperfections create the most genuine connections.

Tips for Taking a Good Selfie

Now, let's talk about how you can take a good selfie as a professional service provider. It's not just about flipping the camera and snapping away, right? If you’re going to take the leap, you may as well try to ace this selfie game right.

  1. The Rule of Thirds: Position important elements of your selfie, like your eyes, along these lines or at their intersections to make your images visually engaging and professional.
  2. Lighting is Everything: Natural light works wonders. Stand facing a window for flattering lighting, but avoid direct sunlight to prevent harsh shadows.
  3. Find Your Angle: Experiment with different angles that feel most natural and genuine to you.
  4. Smile Naturally: Be yourself and let your genuine personality shine through. Authentic smiles that reach your eyes are the best.
  1. Background Matters: Choose a tidy, non-distracting background. It's your first impression, so make it a good one.

Go forth - and snap!

In the world of professional services, the small, personal touches often set you apart. Sharing a thoughtful, well-composed photo of yourself can be one of those touches. Remember, showing up authentically and letting people see the real you can work wonders for your professional relationships.

So, go ahead, take that selfie and share it where it matters for your personal and company brand.

Until next time, keep mastering your business and showing the world the unique professional you truly are!
